My Story

On the 24th September 2024, my world changed. I had to say goodbye to my beloved dad, after a 6-year long battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

We were fortunate that he passed away peacefully at home. He was comfortable and surrounded by family, but this wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the amazing teams at Dorothy House.

The final days were challenging. Not only were they emotional but it took time to get my dad settled; the Dorothy House team persevered and were incredibly supportive and helpful.

Palliative care in the UK is essential but overlooked. Hospices only receive around a third of their funding from the government - the rest they have to find themselves. And it's estimated around 90% of people who die should have received palliative care.

Anything you can spare would be hugely appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and reason for running.
